The Evolution of Surface by Alex Box

Image
WWD had an interesting article the other day about Alex Box, the make-up artist extraordinaire and creative director of Illamasqua, Here are some excerpts. You can read the whole article on the Hall Five website.

Alex Box, who’s known for her experimental streak, is turning painting faces into performance art. Box, who started out as a fine artist and trained at London’s Chelsea College of Art, teamed with MAC Cosmetics to stage a live performance, called “The Evolution of Surface,” at London’s Louise Blouin Foundation gallery. Box will hold a similar performance at New York’s New Museum, and on Friday at Milk Studios in Los Angeles.

“I really wanted to bring it back to makeup being a performance and an experience,” said Box

There was also a digital aspect to Box’s presentation — she used motion control technology to virtually paint on a 3-D face shown on a screen, gesturing like a conductor to make colors appear on the face. “It’s all about exploring what surface is and how…

Elizabeth Taylor: an enduring icon of Hollywood's golden age

Here's a great article about Elizabeth Taylor. FROM THE GUARDIAN Philip French remembers the child star turned Oscar-winning actress, who was as celebrated as much for her tempestuous relationships as her movies.

I love this mix of bright yellow pants, top and shoes teamed with a white blazer and bag.

Picture Hat Perfect

Image
In a rather bland runway season for Fall 2011, one non-shoe or handbag accessory has been ubiquitous. The wide-brimmed portrait or picture hat has symbolized many fashion eras, most recently the 1970s. Iconic fashion figures from Bianca Jagger and Angelica Huston to Cher and Lauren Hutton have been photographed wearing one. There is something wonderfully ladylike and yet bohemian about these hats. For Fall designers used a wide range of sophisticated colors from cloudy pink and nude to deep teal, purple and ochre
